WebFiling is closing in 2028: what it means and what to do
Companies House is closing WebFiling for annual accounts in April 2028. Here is what is changing and how to stay compliant.
For years, most small companies have filed their annual accounts using the free Companies House WebFiling service. From 1 April 2028 that option goes away for accounts, and you will need commercial software instead.
What is actually changing
From April 2028, all UK companies must file their annual accounts in iXBRL format using commercial software. The free web form and paper filing both close for accounts. Other filings, such as the confirmation statement, stay open on the usual channels.
- Web and paper filing close for annual accounts
- Accounts must be submitted as iXBRL through software
- Abridged accounts are abolished
- Small companies and micro-entities must file a profit and loss account, though they can opt out of publishing it
What you should do now
You do not need to act today, but it pays to know your options before the deadline. Pick a filing tool that supports your company type, and make sure you understand what your accounts must include under the new rules.
WebFiling.uk is building a free, simple tool for dormant, micro and small companies so you can file in minutes when the change lands. Join the waiting list to be first in.
